Floor Preparation Project-HIGH-PERFORMANCE POLISHED CONCRETE FLOORING

Coarse Grinding & Surface Preparation

CONCRETE SURFACE PREPARATION (PRE-POLISHING)

Purpose: To transform a raw/coarse-ground concrete slab into a high-density, refined surface ready for final polishing.

TECHNICAL EXECUTION (PRE-POLISHING PHASE)

Step 1: Surface Leveling & Laitance Removal

  • Tooling: 16 / 30 Grit Metal-Bond Diamonds.

  • Action: Heavy grinding to remove the "laitance" (the weak, dusty top layer). This step levels high spots and ensures the floor meets industrial flatness standards.

  • Outcome: Exposure of a clean, solid concrete matrix with an open-pore structure.

Step 2: Scratch Refinement (Honing)

  • Tooling: 50 / 100 Grit Transitional Hybrid / Ceramic Pads.

  • Action: Using the planetary rotation of the HTG-820-RC, we removed the aggressive scratches left by the metal diamonds.

  • Importance: This is the most critical prep step; a smooth, scratch-free foundation is required before any polishing resin can be used.

Step 3: Grouting & Pore Filling

  • Method: Slurry Grinding.

  • Action: A specialized grout was applied and worked into the surface. This fills pinholes and minor cracks, creating a densified, "closed" surface that feels smooth to the touch.

Step 4: Chemical Densification (Hardening)

  • Agent: Lithium Silicate Hardener.

  • Action: Applied to the clean, honed surface to penetrate and react with the concrete.

  • Result: Permanent dust-proofing and a significant increase in surface Mohs hardness, allowing the floor to sustain a high-gloss "mirror" reflection in the next phase.

FINAL PRE-POLISH CONDITION

At the conclusion of this phase, the floor was:

  1. Level & Flat: No "waves" or high joints.

  2. Dense & Hard: Chemically strengthened to resist wear.

  3. Smooth: Honed to a 200-grit matte finish, ready for the final polishing steps.
