Sanding Project-Bona Belt Sander
Hardwood Floor Sanding & Refinishing Project
Hardwood Floor Sanding & Refinishing Project
Bona Belt Sander (Heavy-Duty Belt Sanding Machine), Bona DCS (Dust Containment System), Bona Abrasive Belts, Bona Eco-Friendly Waterborne Finishes.
Project Background & Challenges:
Existing Floor Condition: The original timber flooring exhibited severe wear, surface scratches, discoloration, and minor height unevenness due to prolonged high foot traffic.
Client Requirements:
Complete removal of existing worn polyurethane coatings and deep leveling of the timber surface.
Strict dust control throughout the sanding process to protect indoor walls, fixtures, and adjacent finished areas.
Restoration of the natural wood grain with a completely smooth, swirl-free, and ridge-free finish.
Key Equipment Application: Bona Belt Sander
For this project, the Bona Belt Sander heavy-duty industrial belt sanding machine was deployed as the primary equipment for coarse and medium sanding:
Powerful Cut & Precise Pressure Control:
The Bona Belt Sander delivers exceptional cutting performance, rapidly stripping away old finishes and grime while effectively leveling uneven floorboards.
Infinite drum pressure adjustment allows precise calibration according to the timber's hardness, preventing damage to the wood substrate.
Superior Surface Flatness:
Its precision belt-drive mechanism and smooth clutch engagement eliminate drum marks, chatter lines, and gouges, ensuring an exceptionally flat and uniform surface.
Dust-Free Sanding System:
Connected directly to the Bona DCS (Dust Containment System), collecting up to 99.8% of dust at the source. This maintained a clean, safe work site and prevented post-sanding contamination.
Standard Work Procedure
Site Preparation & Inspection: Cleared the area, secured loose boards, and recessed exposed nail heads.
Coarse Sanding: Operated the Bona Belt Sander with lower-grit abrasives (e.g., P36 / P50) to strip old coatings and perform initial floor leveling.
Medium Sanding: Continued with the Bona Belt Sander using medium-grit abrasives (e.g., P80) to smooth out coarse scratches and even out the grain.
Edge & Fine Sanding: Used Bona edge sanders for perimeter areas, followed by multi-disc buffing (P100 / P120) across the entire floor for fine smoothing.
Finishing Application: Vacuumed the clean surface and applied Bona eco-friendly waterborne primer and topcoats.
Project Results
The surface sanded by the Bona Belt Sander achieved exceptional smoothness and flawless flat uniformity. The clear waterborne finish brought out the rich, natural wood texture.
