Polishing Project-Staircase
Marble Staircase Polishing
Marble Staircase Polishing
This project involved the polishing and restoration of a high-end indoor marble staircase, which had lost its shine over time due to daily wear and micro-scratches. The challenge was to achieve a high-gloss finish on each step while maintaining precision along edges and corners.
The Klindex UFO was selected for this task due to its compact design, making it ideal for polishing small surfaces like stair treads and risers. Its planetary gear system allows for consistent polishing results without swirl marks, even in tight or uneven areas.
Polishing Process:
Surface Preparation:
Cleaned surface thoroughly to remove dust, debris, and wax residues.
Protected non-working areas with masking materials.
Initial Honing:
Used Klindex UFO with 50# and 100# diamond pads to remove etching and deep micro-scratches.
Progressive Polishing:
Continued with 200# to 1500# resin pads to gradually restore surface smoothness and clarity.
Final Polishing:
Applied polishing compound and buffed with 3000# high-gloss pad for a mirror-finish result.
Finishing & Detailing:
Cleaned edges and corners using the UFO's edge-friendly design.
Applied optional marble sealer upon client’s request for long-term protection.
Results:
Achieved high-gloss mirror finish on each marble step
Restored clarity and reflectivity of the natural stone
Edges and curved stair noses were polished evenly and safely
Work completed efficiently with minimal disruption
